Ichiro Suzuki donates 3000-hit souvenirs to Hall of Fame
Some people in the United States wonder how many more hits he could have collected if his debut in the major leagues had been before the age of 27. “I feel like I haven’t been able to do that as much as I would like lately”. “It’s about my teammates and the fans, and that’s how I felt today”. And even after his 15th season, past year with the Marlins at the age of 41, it still seemed hard to believe that Ichiro would get to 3,000. Cristhian Adames hit into a run-scoring fielder’s choice. He’s the franchise leader in hits (2,533), triples (79), batting average (.322) and stolen bases (438). Obviously, he has been a huge part of what we’ve done this year. He honors our game with everything he does.

Suzuki’s journey to 3,000 is unique as the outfielder made his Major League Baseball debut at the age of 27 and had already accumulated 1,278 hits in Japan before making his way across the Pacific. Ichiro is a huge part of the Fish’s success this season because it doesn’t matter if he’s 27 or 42, it doesn’t matter if he’s playing in Japan or America – he’s consistently going to be an incredible baseball player wherever he goes. Ichiro hit a towering fly ball that ricocheted off the right field wall to achieve the rare milestone, tying Roberto Clemente for 29th on the all-time hits list. Next up is Al Kaline at 3,007 and Wade Boggs at 3,010.
Suzuki had 2,533 of those 3,000 hits in 12 seasons in Seattle, where he made his Major League Baseball debut in 2001 as a 27-year-old rookie. “He has been the most popular sports figure in Japan for about 20 years – back to when he was playing there”.
