The balance beam is arguably the most precarious of gymnastics events, and even the most skilled gymnasts can be undone by nerves and see small errors snowball into huge deductions.
To be on point each time is a grind, perhaps particularly when the hoopla of being Simone Biles overtakes you. She and her coaches attempted an inquiry on Laurie’s score because they thought she deserved higher, but it was rejected.
The American athlete is so far three for three in the Games, having topped the team and individual all-round, as well as the vault. She has executed every routine flawlessly and continues to make headlines and produce trending YouTube videos.
