Katie Ledecky and Michael Phelps Recreate Their Famous Photo 10 Years Later
“Recreating a 10-year-old photo.in reverse!” “I wanted to come back and finish my career how I wanted and this was the cherry on top of the cake”. It’s a scene that’s replayed itself thousands of times in the past 16 years – go to any swim family’s house, particularly those who live nearby Phelps’ Baltimore, and you’ll see the same sort of photo.
The Olympic swimmers and gold medalists revamped their viral photo for the TODAY show on Monday, 10 years after the original photo was taken, the daytime show reported.
Great Britain’s female track cycling team, consisting of Katie Archibald, Laura Trott, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand, broke the Fastest women’s 4-km team pursuit yet again and successfully defended their title by winning gold.
Ledecky leaves Rio with four gold medals, including three in individual events, as well as a silver medal as part of the 4×100 freestyle relay. The victory earned Team USA its 1,000 gold medal.
“I had a ton of fun, ” she said.
Ledecky, now 19, shared that old picture juxtaposed with an updated version from Monday showing Phelps on the opposite side of the table waiting for her to sign his poster. “I didn’t mean it like that!” That had happened three years earlier, when she approached him to ask for an autograph as he walked to his vehicle after a meet at the University of Maryland.

There was plenty to smile about as Ledecky walked away from Rio with five total medals, four of them gold, along with two world records. Phelps finished his incredible career with an Olympic-record 23 gold medals and 28 overall, including five gold medals in Rio.
“Katie’s doing her thing and she’s breaking records every time she gets in the pool”, he told “Today’s” Matt Lauer.
