Postman succeeds in mission to help boy who couldn’t afford books
That’s what he was doing when Ron Lynch saw him last week as he delivered mail for the Sandy Post Office in Utah.
We all know reading is a popular pastime but meet a 12-year-old Utah boy whose passion for reading is getting global attention. He asked me if I had any extra.
“It’s super fun, and it’s interesting”, Matthew said. The spirit of sharing has touched Flores, but he says he plans on reading each and every book before paying it forward.
Lynch suggested the library, but when Matthew said his family didn’t have a vehicle and couldn’t afford the bus, the challenge was on. Mathew’s situation tugged at Lynch’s heartstrings.
Lynch posted the tale on Facebook asking his friends if they had any age appropriate books to spare.
Thanks to the power of social media, postal worker Ron Lynch collected shelves full of books for the child to read. He didn’t want to sit in front of the TV playing games all day. “This kid just wanted to read”. And recently, Lynch made a personal delivery of more books to add to Mathew’s growing collection. He asked his friends to send the boy books. “My mother instilled a love of books in me”, Lynch said. “Please share and let’s get him tons of reading material!”
They decided it’d attract somewhat of awareness from his buddies – but had no notion so just how much his attractiveness that was basic could reach. “Plus, it gets you smarter”, Flores said.
Little did he know, his post would go viral, and the boy would receive books from all over the world, including the United Kingdom, Australia and India.
Also, people have gone to Mathew’s home to bring him books. “I told him the library had many, but he said they don’t have a auto, and couldn’t afford the bus”.
