B to purchase six North Texas grocery store sites
North Texas fans of legendary San Antonio-based grocery chain H-E-B may have something to get pretty excited about.
The Dallas Morning News reported the company owns about 20 parcels of land elsewhere in North Texas.
The company will look at each store on a case-by-case basis, and its priority for the Dallas-Fort Worth area remains Central Market. The retailer now operates five Central Markets in north Texas and offers grocery delivery to the region and beyond.
H-E-B operates five Central Market format stores in around Dallas, and H-E-B conventional stores only south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The only H-E-B stores in the area are in far southern suburbs such as Burleson and Waxahachie. Four of them are former Albertsons stores in the Dallas neighborhoods of Uptown, Lake Highlands, Lakewood and Northwest Dallas. H-E-B/Central Market spokesperson Mabrie Jackson said they have not decided whether the stores will become a Central Market or H-E-B.
Sun Fresh Market is now closing and it may be several months before the store reopens under an H-E-B brand.
The stores, which have been in operation for a year as Sun Fresh, are closing. “We are now evaluating the feasibility of each site to determine the most effective use of the properties”.
