Allyson Felix wins in Rio debut
Meanwhile, Allyson Felix may not be competing in her favourite race at the Rio Games, but the United States track star insisted she was wholly focused on adding 400m gold to her impressive haul of major championship medals.
Felix, the 2015 400m world champion, is running the individual 400m for the first time at the Olympics.

Felix, who suffered an ankle injury in a gym accident earlier this year, was unable to defend her 200 metres title in Rio after failing to finish in the top three at the U.S trials. “I’ve made it from not being able to walk to being here”. It’s fairly close to what it should be. “Just the recovery is key now”.
Simone Biles and the “Final Five” have lots to look forward to when they get back from the Rio Olympics. This race is completely different to the 200m. “I’ll do my best”. All three US athletes won their heats.
Allyson Felix won her first round 400m heat in 51.24 seconds to advance to the semifinals.
The London 400 metres champion Sanya Richards-Ross was also unable to defend the Olympic crown after suffering a career-ending injury at the same meet.
“The race went good, I’m just fed up with this walk afterwards”, Miller said of the complicated route the athletes have to negotiate through the media zone. It’s like a whole different workout”.
Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson ran the second fastest time of the night, a personal best 49.83, to win a tight semi-final ahead of American Natasha Hastings, whose time of 49.90 was also her best of 2016.
