Britney Spears to perform at 2016 VMAs
“Britney Spears will perform at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards for the first time in roughly a decade, the network announced on Tuesday”.
Her new single (it features rising rap star G-Eazy) is the lead from the new album – the follow-up to 2013’s “Britney Jean” – that sees Spears veering away from her tried-and-true formula of high octane dance-pop. Watch the official announcement below.
Spears is in the middle of an aggressive comeback ahead of her long-in-the-works ninth album, “Glory”, which will arrive on August 26 – just two days before the VMAs. And it’s been 13 years since “The Kiss” with Madonna set tongues wagging.
“The VMAs don’t just give you a stage”, she says in the video, which depicts a snake slithering through what appears to be a trashed dressing room. As you likely recall, she and Madge ended up making out-a moment that will go down in history as one of pop culture’s best.
Perhaps this may be a shock to you, but a lot of Britney fans actually saw this coming.
This will mark the first time she takes the VMAs stage for a performance since her now-infamous rendition of “Gimme More” almost a decade ago in 2007.
The GRAMMY-winning pop princess will belt out her latest hit, “Make Me…” when this year’s show airs live from New York City’s Madison Square Garden on August 28.
MTV explained: “Rihanna’s unparalleled output of hits have spawned some of today’s most memorable music videos from “Umbrella” to “We Found Love, ‘ “Diamonds” and her most recent collaboration with Drake on ‘Work”.
