The New Zealand-based sister of Great Britain’s most successful female Olympian Laura Trott has been stunned by the backlash about her perceived lack of enthusiasm during an interview with British media, describing it as “a lot of fuss made of nothing”. Although they won only six this time – one less than the previous two Games – Britain only had entrants in nine of the 10 events, as the women’s sprint team didn’t qualify.
Trott said it was impossible to know whether she would be able to defend her titles in four years time at Tokyo 2020 as the cycling programme changes at each games.

Trott admitted: “I was a nervous wreck before the race anyway – it’s always much harder watching somebody else than it is to do it yourself”. Collectively, Great Britain’s track cyclists have amassed 11 medals over the past week-with every member of the team winning at least one.

Trott, 24, and Kenny, 28, are both track cyclists.
Team GB now has 50 medals including 19 golds, nine behind the United States and two ahead of China.
Overall, BBC1’s Olympics coverage averaged 8.58m between 7pm and 11:25pm, a share of more than 44% of the total available viewing. She added, however: “They have to keep their eyes open that there are other nations here”.
“I offered our footage, not really knowing how it looked”. Father David said she had an injury in 2014 and a cancer scare in 2014, “so it’s an unbelievable achievement”.
“I was working, so I’m self-employed, so if I don’t work then I don’t make no money” she said.
Marchant’s family said they were “completely stunned” by her medal just three years after she took up cycling seriously.
