Koeman: Coleman still out, Lukaku close, decisions made on Niasse and McGeady
Ronald Koeman has refused to be drawn on the speculation linking Manchester City’s Joe Hart with a move to Everton.
“We will make a fast decision about Niasse and about McGeady, maybe one or two or three more”, he told reporters. Today it’s Joe Hart, tomorrow it will be (someone else). I prefer not to speak about players with contracts who are not at Everton.
“We always look for players to have a stronger squad than we have”.
“What I don’t like is to talk about rumours, because then we can keep that for another two weeks”, he said.
Koeman has already added Maarten Stekelenburg to his ranks this summer to challenge Joel Robles for the honour of being the Blues’ number-one.
Everton have also been linked with Sunderland defender Lamine Kone, although when that was put to Koeman on Thursday he again said he would not talk about players now contracted to clubs other than his own.
Everton were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham in their first Premier League fixture, with Erik Lamela’s second-half header cancelling out Ross Barkley’s free-kick.
“I believe in [having] three good goalkeepers and of course it’s also about the development of young goalkeepers”, added Koeman. Ashley Williams is ready to join the squad for the trip to West Brom, and Yannick Bolasie is also in contention for a debut.
“I know Rom from ages ago and he has been talking for ages about me coming here”. The Senegal worldwide was also offered as a makeweight to Crystal Palace in the £25m deal for Yannick Bolasie.
