College celebrates sixth year of A-Level success
Rugby High School’s students have been celebrating another fantastic series of A-level results today.
The overall pass rate was 98.2 per cent.
“It shows the depth of academic rigour at TDA when 52 per cent of maths candidates achieve an A* or an A and 43 per cent of students studying geography also attained A* or A”.
Ucas head Mary Curnock Cook said: ” The UK has some of the best universities in the world so it doesn’t surprise me that the Brexit vote doesn’t seem to have put European Union students off studying here. Eleven girls achieved three or more A*s, with six taking home four top grades. Sophia Burlison has achieved A*AA and will being reading English at York university.
He said: “I’m amazed – it wasn’t what I expected at all”.
” I didn’t expect the three A grades although Mrs Hook told me I would”.
“I’m so happy”, she said.
All Further Maths students and 50% of A level Maths students achieved at least an A grade, while 93% of English Language students earned a C or above.
Among the other top achievers were Alyah Saltiga A*A*A, who will study biochemistry at Manchester University, Euan Lee achieved A*AA, Jennifer Managh achieved A*AA and is going to universitY.
Another 15 students achieved three Grade A or A* passes within their full A Level results – Bronwen Adlington, Hannah Askey, Kit Battarbee, Sophie Beadsmoore, Georgina Botham, Rachel Burnley, Samuel Edmans, Rosie Elliott, Sorcha Heelan, Alistair Hickman, Harry Hinckley, Thomas Parker, Georgina Walker, Daniel Ward and Stephanie Williams.
The number of A-level entries was 31,828, and the proportion of entrants receiving A* or A grades rose by 0.2 per cent on the previous year, with nearly 30 per cent receiving the high marks. The Lower Sixth (Year 12) gained the best AS results ever at Blundell’s: from a cohort of 107 pupils, one third of the pupils gained A grades with 75 per cent of the grades at A-C and a 95 per cent pass rate.
Level 3 BTEC successes include Luisa Namadila, who achieved at A-Level an A* in sociology, A in psychology and at BTEC, double D* BTEC health and social care.

George Stocks celebrates his results at Cordeaux Academy.. The school achieved 45 per cent A*/A grades overall, this compares to the national average of 29.5%.
Rob Hill, head of sixth form, said: “I’d like to congratulate our students on their hard work and commitment throughout the year”.
“These grades will allow them to go on to university and into careers of their choice”.
A UCAS spokesperson told FE Week: “Regrettably there have been a small number of process errors, typically where universities’ automated systems have released communications to prospective students ahead of results day”.
