Girl, 4, found zip-tied, beaten thought her name was ‘Idiot’
Upon examination, it was determined the girl had been zip-tied to her bed as punishment (by her mother and her mother’s boyfriend) and that she believed her name to be “idiot”.
When officers arrived at the centre last Friday, they found the malnourished girl with her mother, Jennifer Denen, 30, and her mother’s partner, Clarence Deen, 47.
They had received a call from the Department of Human Services about a possible case of child abuse, but the condition of the little girl was worse than they had anticipated.
Both remain in the Garland County Jail with a next court date of September 27, 2016.
After police officers were called to the facility, they tried to speak with the girl about her condition.
There have been no media reports of whether or not these children experienced the same abuse.
Reed told police he did call the girl “Idiot”, but said “he did it in jest”, the report said.
She admitted not seeking medical care for her daughter, the police report said. Ligature marks on her wrist were also observed, in addition to apparent malnourishment. The couple has only one child, an 11-month-old, together. Reed allegedly admitted to calling the girl “idiot”, but said it was a joke. When asked what her name was, she replied “Idiot”.
During an interview, Denen stated she saw Reed strike the 4-year-old on the bottom with a plastic bat.
That child, an 11-month-old baby, and the 4-year-old girl are reportedly in the state’s custody.
Reed also reportedly acknowledged striking the child, but, rather than a plastic bat, he had used a half-inch-thick wooden paddle.
After Dene’s arrest her six children (above) were split up, with the four oldest going to stay with their biological father and the victim and the youngest child now in state custody.
