New Overwatch Map Revealed: Eichenwalde
On an unrelated note, Blizzard has released the latest Overwatch Animated Short, called “The Last Bastion”. During the flashback, you get a glimpse of a Reinhardt-like soldier fighting against the robots, which is a clever nod towards the new Overwatch map that was also announced this week.
Lead systems designer Aaron Keller stated that the map is entirely different from the others that were already featured in the game.
Looking at the map name, Eichenwalde is located in Germany. The map will be added to the game free of charge later this year.
Later this week, Blizzard will release Overwatch’s next animated short, “The Last Bastion”, at Gamescom.
It’s sad that the most exciting thing about Overwatch, for me, is seeing these short films because the game itself is so boring.
If you haven’t played Overwatch in a while, now is the flawless time to jump back in. They also revealed that Eichenwalde is “Overwatch” character Bastion’s birthplace. The map goes live in September, but at Gamescom, attendees can play at Blizzard’s booth. Balderich and his men were defeated by the massive Omnic force, but this skirmish allowed for the German military to push the army back, and ultimately take the battle.
Bastion wakes up much later to find himself in a situation where he falls in love with nature and wildlife.
As Eurogamer first noticed, if you type “gg ez” (as in, “good game, easy win”) and hit enter, your text will instantly output a random response created by Blizzard.
Set in an abandoned town just outside of Stuttgart, Germany, the Eichenwalde is an Assault or Escort hybrid map.
There’s a summary for the new short, but you may want to read it afterwards.
