The Lost Boys is Slated for a TV Adaptation
It was Gulfstream’s idea to remake The Lost Boys into a TV series through the company’s overall deal with WBTV. The series will tell a story spanning 70 years, each decade a new season. They’re immortal vampires, after all.
According to Deadline, season 1 will be set in San Francisco during the Summer of Love, 1967. The CW is calling curtains on their long-running vampire saga The Vampire Diaries after its 8th and final season, but they’re looking to stay in the blood-sucking business – and not just through the TVD spinoff The Originals. Each season will feature new human characters, settings, and antagonists around the group of vampires that form the core cast of the series, and will chronicle their experiences as the world changes around them but they remain the same age.
The original 1987 film The Lost Boys was followed by a pair of direct-to-videos sequels released in 2008 and 2011, with only Corey Feldman returning for the follow-ups.
Would U take a stab at a Lost Boys TV show??
After all, a huge part of the show’s appeal is its nostalgia factor, pulling in ’80s references from a wide array of sources including E.T., Stand By Me and a number of other iconic movies that featured big hair at some point. Luckily, there’s always Season Two.
Thomas will pen the script for the CW’s take and exec produce via his Warner Bros.
The possible good news is that Veronica Mars brain Rob Thomas is likely to be a showrunner, which makes us think that, at the very least, it will have moments of humour and sharpness. If he’s feeling particularly adventurous, Thomas could even keep the film in continuity.
Anthology shows are becoming increasingly popular at different networks, most notably FX which has partnered with creator Ryan Murphy on two different series – American Horror Story and American Crime Story – in the past few years.
