Simone Biles meets, gets kiss from celebrity crush Zac Efron

19-year-old Biles entered the Rio Olympics already a gymnastics legend: four-time national all-around champion, three-time reigning world all-around champion, most decorated US female gymnast ever with 14 total world championship medals, and first African-American gymnast to win the world all-around title. Gold for Biles in the floor exercise – her fourth gold of the Olympics. She became the first American to win four gold medals in a single Summer Olympic games.

Mariano took to Instagram today to declare his affection for America’s newest sweetheart.

Whether Biles will leave the games as the best gymnast of all-time is up for debate, a topic she will happily leave to others.

Translating that success into a long-term income stream promises to be hard, because of a small window for most Olympians to capitalize on their notoriety. Her record-breaking times and gender presentation have led some to question whether she was a woman, after beating the fastest times in the 2009 Berlin World Championships. After wasting several seconds trying to refasten her sneaker, she tossed it to the side and kept wearing only one shoe.

“I’m shaking”, Biles said. Simone had famously tweeted about her crush. Their women’s soccer team and top-ranked beach volleyball duo were eliminated from the Olympics, but a lightweight boxer gave the host nation a lift with a stirring victory in his gold medal bout. It’s four years away, but Tokyo is going to have a lot to live up to. It’s been very long in competing so many times.

In the rest of the world, Ashton is another baby boy name trend – after reigning American Olympic decathlon champion Ashton Eaton who is hoping to defend his London 2012 gold medal.

On Wednesday the equally hunky suitor (and confirmed platonic friend) shared a photo of him kissing Biles on the cheek, along with a caption jokingly claiming Biles’s heart as his own.

The Los Angeles Times reported that Biles was in disbelief, and when she expressed how nervous she was, Efron admitted that he was the one with the butterflies. It’s enough to appear superhuman, though Martha Karolyi, the stern-faced coordinator for the USA women’s national team, took pains to remind a group of journalists earlier this week that Biles is, in fact, human. “We’ll see”, she said.
