London’s mayor says overnight subway will boost economy
Eight new 24-hour bus routes will launch in London on Friday to supplement new services provided by Night Tube.
But even with Night Tube now running, RMT, one of the unions, said it will maintain a policy “of “extreme vigilance” with our reps monitoring issues like safety, security and the impact on staff of running services round the clock”, RMT’s General Secretary Mick Cash said in statement.
Night Tube services will operate on the Victoria line with trains running on average every 10 minutes across the entire line.

The driver of the first Night Tube said the service was “great for London” and insisted he would be able to adjust to working through the night.
Now that agreement has eventually been reached, trains will run between north and south London and from east to west, before being rolled out on three further lines including to Heathrow Airport.
“A night service is long overdue from London’s perspective and from an global one”, said David Lutton of the business lobby group London First, which co-authored a report into the impact of the service.
The first night went without a hitch. “It takes ages to wait for a night bus and getting cab from say Angel to Oxford Circus would cost you something like £30”.
The plan was announced in November 2013 and meant to begin in September 2015, but strikes over pay delayed the start by almost another year.
“I’m really pleased that 100 days or so after becoming the mayor we’ve got that right”, Khan said. They will run approximately every 20 minutes between Ealing Broadway and White City and between Leytonstone and Loughton/Hainault.
Once the full service is in place, 100 police officers will ride the network.
City leaders hope the new service will make the British capital a truly 24-hour city on the weekends and bolster its economy. Supt Chris Horton, the officer responsible for policing on the underground, said there was no reason for passengers to be less safe than during the day.
“The Night Tube is going to provide a huge boost to our capital and very clearly demonstrates that London is open”.
This weekend, just the Victoria and Central lines are starting, with the others to follow in the autumn, but all five have been mapped here according to house price growth in the last 12 months.
