Honor unveils its first U.S. flagship smartphone — ‘Honor 8’

Pre-orders will start on August 17 and will run until September 3. It is priced at US$ 200 and sports some decent specifications.

The Honor 8’s most important feature, however, is the price.

As of connectivity options, the handset supports 4G LTE, along with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, NFC and Infrared sensor. Honor 8 can charge to 47 per cent in 30 minutes.

Huawei Honor 8 will be available in several color variants.

The launch of the Honor 8 follows a long streak of successful product releases in its homeland, China, but its introduction to the American market promises more success given its attractive design, rocking specs, and affordable price. Nothing was mentioned in regards to the internal storage, but the rear camera is listed at 16MP while the front-facing camera clocks in at 8MP. It has an 8-megapixel front camera and 12-megapixel rear cameras with flash and a USB-C charging port. Buried in the glass back is a dual-camera system, which yes, is the same thing rumored for the upcoming iPhone 7. When the phone is asleep, you can launch the camera (and immediately take a picture) by double- or triple-pressing the volume down button, depending on how you set it up. Unfortunately, just as we suspected, like previous Honor flagship models, the 8 is not officially coming to Canada. The smartphone is also running Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Emotion UI 4.1 grafted on top.

This is the second handset to ever reach the United States by ways of Honor. Apart from using this to identify yourself to unlock the phone you can also use this sensor to act as a Trigger to launch certain programs. You can also build custom commands when you tap your knuckle on the screen. If Huawei can work out a way to really sell its phones without going through the cell carriers, it might be onto something. Honor 8 has 4GB of RAM, and it comes in three colors: black, dark blue and white.

The device will be available for purchase on Honor’s website, Amazon, Best Buy, B&H Photo, and Newegg.
