Top RNC strategist to work more with Trump campaign
Even if the real-estate mogul does soften his immigration platform, it seems unlikely Hillary Clinton’s campaign will let voters forget Trump’s more controversial policy proposals.
Donald Trump’s hard-line stance on immigration has always been a central plank of his presidential campaign, but this weekend it may have wobbled, with the Republican nominee apparently modifying his stance on the mass deportation of undocumented people.
On CNN’s State of the Union, anchorwoman Dana Bash played a clip of Trump saying “We’re going to have a deportation force, and you’re going to do it humanely. they’re going back where they came. that’s the way it’s supposed to be”, before asking Conway whether he still supported such a force.
A group of Hispanic supporters of Donald Trump left a Saturday meeting with him suggesting he’ll have a plan next week for dealing with immigrants illegally in the USA that goes beyond deportation.
Donald Trump’s vow to deport 11 million undocumented immigrants if elected president appeared to be undergoing a shift Sunday as the struggling Republican candidate reaches out to minorities alienated by his harsh rhetoric.
Trump met with Hispanic supporters at his Trump Tower headquarters in NY on Saturday, when several participants told Spanish-language network Univision that he said his plan will include finding a way to legalize millions of undocumented immigrants.
I do, and the reason is I don’t like when people hurl personal insults. “I think people are going to find that I have not only the best policies, but I will have the biggest heart of anybody”. And, when Bash asked if Trump would release his past returns from 2002 to 2008 that aren’t under audit, Conway shot the idea down without much explanation. While Conway denied that Ailes had any “formal or informal role with the campaign”, and denied that she’d ever been present in a meeting between Trump and Ailes, she did say that “Mr. Trump speaks to many people”.
Conway also said she understands after having joined the campaign that Trump can not release his tax returns while under audit – after having called for their release while working for a super PAC that backed Trump GOP primary rival Texas Sen.
“I’ve learned since being on the inside that this audit is a serious matter”, she said.
The Trump campaign said on Friday that campaign chairman Paul Manafort was resigning.
The Trump campaign announced Thursday that Conway had been promoted from the job of campaign adviser and that Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen Bannon was the campaign’s new chief executive.
Conway suggested Trump’s remarks were an open letter to anybody whom he’s offended, including Arizona GOP Sen.
Conway also reiterated the vague apology Trump issued last week in North Carolina, further signaling her hypocrisy.
