Apple Is Now Accepting Donations for Louisiana Flood Relief
But authorities said there’s still too much danger for people to return.
“A disaster this big begs for the personal presence of the president at ground zero”, the paper writes in an editorial titled, ‘Our Views: Vacation or not, a hurting Louisiana needs you now, President Obama’. Even Democrat Governor of Louisiana John Bel Edwards had to cover for Obama claiming in an interview on MSNBC that he did not want a presidential visit at this time.
Louisiana continues to dig itself out from devastating floods, with search parties going door.
GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump on August 19 visited Louisiana to lend his support to citizens of a state that has been devastated by recent flooding.
“What’s happened here is incredible, nobody understands how bad it is”, Trump said.
In what the Red Cross has called “the worst natural disaster to strike the United States since Superstorm Sandy”, Louisiana has endured catastrophic flooding from 6,900,000,000,000 gallons of rain in a single week. As the world has watched the tragedy unfold, many have wanted to offer immediate help – and luckily, the Louisiana flood text donation service makes that easy. Last week Louisiana was overwhelmed with flood water causing at least thirteen deaths and thousands of homes damaged by the flood waters.
Currently, homeowners and helpers are doing their best to salvage half-damaged homes before mold takes over.
The White House also noted that Louisiana’s top elected Republican, Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, on Thursday also praised the federal government’s response during an interview with NPR.
But President Obama would rather spend his remaining months in office whacking balls at exclusive golf courses in posh resort towns.
“Typically, by this point in a storm, I think Red Cross would be receiving a lot more donations”, Edwards said. Roads and essential routes would need to be shut down to pave way for a presidential motorcade, and vital law enforcement resources would need to be diverted, Edwards said. She did not, however, criticize Obama for continuing his vacation. The national media were also slammed for their “key absence”. Even with the incredible magnitude of the disaster the national media has moved on from the Louisiana flood and the story is not generating headlines any longer. Obama also approved a federal disaster declaration for affected areas of the state. Thompson said aerial surveys Saturday indicated that waters in lower Livingston Parish had receded enough to allow them to search neighborhoods that were off limits due to high water earlier.
The Red Cross reported that it has already had a hand in serving almost 100,000 meals, and that more than 7,000 residents of flood-stricken regions were in Red Cross and community shelters as of Tuesday night.
But, really? What does a storm need to get the attention it deserves?
