Ryan Lochte tells Brazilians he was ‘immature’
“None of this would have happened”, he added about the aftermath in which three of his fellow swimmers were questioned by Brazilian police and one was ordered to donate almost $11,000 to a Brazilian charity. And it was my immature behaviour. “Whether you call it a robbery or extortion or us paying just for the damages”.
“It’s traumatic to be out late with your friends in a foreign country – with a language barrier – and have a stranger point a gun at you and demand money to let you leave”, Lochte wrote.
The Today show host also didn’t ask why Lochte went to the police to report the false story in the first place, but questions along these lines may come in the full interview, set to air on Monday.
In this still image from video Olympic gold medallist swimmer Ryan Lochte of the US gives an interview to Globo TV at their studios in New York City, Aug. 20, 2016.
“If I hadn’t exaggerated the story or told the entire story, none of this would have happened”, he said in the interview.
“And I’m sorry that my immaturity caused all this ruckus”.
“I overexagerrated that story”.
Srour said Brazilian judges are notorious for pursuing cases such as Lochte’s if charges are filed and that Brazilian authorities could use Interpol and other global organizations to complicate his overseas travel. “I don’t want little kids to look at me for what I just did, for that one night”.
Disgraced US swimmer Ryan Lochte offered a tearful apology to his family, swimming teammates and people of Brazil for what he claims was a “stupid mistake” at the Rio gas station which embroiled into a major controversy and overshadowed the final week of the ongoing Olympic Games. The commission will determine if the swimmers will face any punishment.
Lochte has yet to respond, but his laywer, Jeff Ostrow, continues to frame the incident as a robbery at gunpoint, even after Lochte apologized for not being “careful and candid” in his account of what really happened.
CCTV footage emerged on Thursday which proved that Lochte, along with fellow Team US members Jimmy Feigen, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger, had lied to Brazilian authorities about the incident at a petrol station.
Lochte described how four American swimmers being asked to pay for damages at a gas station by two armed guards blossomed into a much taller tale, and took the blame for letting it get that far.
In an online teaser, Lochte called his behavior “immature” and said he was taking “full responsibility” for the incident.
“I accept my responsibility for my role in this happening and have learned some valuable lessons”.
Along with a probable suspension from the sport, the gold medalist could lose current endorsements with Speedo, Airweave and Polo Ralph Lauren. Like, I don’t want them to think that I left and left them dry because they were my teammates. The swimwear company said it has “a policy not to comment on ongoing legal investigations”. And if I had never done that, we wouldn’t be in this mess.
The Airweave/Lochte partnership was already scheduled to end this year.
“Lochte, who added one gold medal from the Rio games to his lifetime collection, said the phrase, “…
“He’s certainly on the back end of his swimming career”, Brennan said.
