No injuries as train carrying coal derails in rural Texas
The train company tells the department the train derailed around 6:00 P.M. Sunday, when the bridge it was traveling over failed.
Officials say no one was injured when a train hauling coal derailed in rural North Texas, sending some cars into a creek.
As of 1 p.m., crews have cleared 22 of the 26 derailed cars, said Union Pacific spokesman Jeff DeGraff.
Police first closed the southbound lane of US 377 from Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound to Bobcat Boulevard. It is still expected to take multiple days to complete the bridge work in order to re-open the track to train traffic.
Northbound Highway 377 is open.
The train was not carrying any hazardous materials, Pettigrew said.
As of 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, the southbound side of Highway 377 is closed from Highway 1171 into Roanoke.
“Early reports is that there is damage to the [railroad] bridge”, said DeGraff.
