Eagles sign linebacker Stephen Tulloch
Hicks started five games as a rookie a year ago before suffering a season-ending pectoral tendon tear. He was released by the Lions last month.
The Philadelphia Eagles have reportedly added some much-needed depth to their linebacker corps Sunday by signing free agent Stephen Tulloch.
Walker played very well on defense and special teams against Tampa Bay in the Eagles first preseason game. He’ll join a linebacker core that consists of Nigel Bradham, Jordan Hicks, and Mychal Kendricks. But they didn’t actually make the move official until July 5 – at which point, most teams had filled their needs at the position, which left Tulloch in limbo.
That comes as a pretty solid deal for Tulloch.
How will Tulloch help the Philadelphia Eagles?
“When I get a chance to sit down with him and Coach Fipp, this is a team sport and everyone has to play a big role in special teams”, Pederson said. “I was with Tennessee when we drafted him; [he] ended up being starting middle linebacker for us there”.
Obviously, I was told back in February that the team kind of wanted to go in a younger direction, which is understandable, but we had some things to work out in between, between that.
Stephen Tulloch is joining forces with Jim Schwartz once again. That’s a lot of money for a backup.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed by the team, but Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported the contract is for one year and up to $3 million, with $1.75 million guaranteed. My one concern is where this may affect other areas of the roster that need improvement.
Once Tulloch officially signs, the roster will be at 84. Let’s hope this reunion bears fruit for the Eagles. If anyone can pull a top performance out of him it’s Schwartz though.
