Justin Timberlake Steps in for Leonardo DiCaprio to Host Hillary Clinton Fundraiser
Leonardo DiCaprio says he won’t host the event at his L.A. home due to a scheduling conflict and Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have stepped in as hosts.
The signs, from some conservative artists who want to remain anonymous, consist of the Clinton campaign logo (an “H” with an arrow through it) and, underneath, the “ill” in her name is highlighted.
The Clinton campaign said it was “completely false” that DiCaprio’s exit from the event was connected to questions about an issue with DiCaprio’s foundation, which is facing questions over ties to a $3 billion embezzlement case.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sabo wanted to place the his DiCaprio-Clinton artwork near the actor’s home, but was thwarted by security. But now The Revenant star has been forced to drop out and hand over the duties to Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, because his work will keep him away.
Sources told the Hollywood Reporter that DiCaprio’s current project is keeping him at work in NY.
But “the scandal shines an unfamiliar light on the charitable foundation of the most powerful actor in Hollywood thanks to the way [it] has benefited directly from DiCaprio’s relationship with key figures in the saga”. In June, he attended another star-studded fundraiser at entertainment exec Harvey Weinstein’s NY home.
The Titanic star had enlisted the new hosts himself. He does have a documentary, “The Turning Point”, scheduled to premier in September at the Toronto International Film Festival.
People reports that DiCaprio had been set to host a fundraiser with Clinton at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday. The film focuses on how climate change affects endangered species, ecosystems and native communities.
It will feature US President Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, Secretary of State John Kerry, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Pope Francis.
