Man, 91, shoots suspect in neck during armed robbery attempt
The man who was shot by a 91-year-old in Eastpointe on Monday has been charged with felonious assault.
That’s when police say the elderly man pulled out his.38 revolver, shot at the suspect twice, hitting him once in the neck.
The shooting happened outside the Rite Aid Pharmacy on Gratiot Avenue, near 9 Mile Road, at about 10:15 a.m.
The 91-year-old warned the suspect that he had a concealed pistol license, but that didn’t deter him. Police said the younger man was acting in an erratic manner, but didn’t describe his specific behavior.
Baker said the elderly man tried to avoid an interaction by walking away.
The victim was approached by the suspect as he was exiting his auto at a Rite Aid in Eastpointe, Sgt. Martin Campbelltold The Detroit News.
Police responding to a report of shots fired found the accused robber had staggered across Gratiot and was near a tree in the Eastbrook Commons shopping center. “But the suspect kept coming and pointed an unknown object at the victim”.
The suspect ran off despite his wound; police later captured him and took him to a local hospital for treatment.
The CPL holder, through police, declined to speak to reporters.
Police are still investigating the incident and are expected to release additional information later today.
