Joe Haden offers glowing praise of Josh Gordon
The Browns are not now interested in trading Gordon.
According to a report, “multiple teams” have inquired about Josh Gordon’s availability in a trade, but the Browns aren’t interested in moving the talented-but-troubled wideout.
While Gordon was permitted by Goodell to practice with the team during training camp, a quad injury he suffered during individual offseason workouts prevented him from taking the field for the first two weeks of training camp.
He got repetitions with the first-team offense Sunday and dominated portions of practice with his size, ability to get open and ease picking the ball out of the air. “He looks a little bigger”, Haden said. “I don’t know how that happened, but he’s still out there running around, looking the same, running his routes, floating, it still looks effortless”.
Several local media reporters have confirmed with sources within the Browns that the team has no intent on trading for him. One thing Cleveland does that makes it challenging is they’ll mix back and forth, even within a series, they’ll switch back between even and odd. But with Gordon reinstated, interest in the receiver seems to have changed.
Of course, because Gordon has been a part of plenty of off-field drama, some are speculating that the Browns would want to get rid of him while his stock is high.
Before his suspension in February 2015, Gordon was starting to emerge as one of the league’s best young receivers.
“It’s important for him to be out there with those guys”, said first-year head coach Hue Jackson. That said, it would be naive to think that Jackson does not already know Gilbert’s role going forward. Maybe he’s turned his life around 180 degrees and is a completely different person, but given the company he keeps I don’t see that being the case.
