Crews free man stuck between buildings after bid to impress
A hopeless romantic tried to impress his date by jumping between two buildings but became stuck in a gap just 18 inches wide.
Forbes Avenue is closed between Oakland Avenue and Atwood Street during the rescue.
Once he’d gotten stuck, the rescue took more than three hours.
A student tried to jump from one rooftop to another in the early hours of the morning, in an attempt to impress a girl he had met hours earlier.
The man was freed at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday, four hours after falling awkwardly into the narrow, debris-filled space between the buildings.
A college student looking to impress a girl found himself wedged between two buildings for almost four hours early Tuesday morning, until emergency responders broke down a wall and rescued him. “But, he is wedged between these two buildings pretty well”, Pittsburgh Public Safety Officer Sonya Toler said. “One of the paramedics did rappel down three stories to render assistance, and also provide us some landmarks to where he was”.
He was taken to the hospital following his rescue, and WKBN reported he was bleeding but waved to TV cameras before his gurney was wheeled into an ambulance.
“He was alert and talking”, Hissrich said. He was able to move his extremities.
Rescue workers had to drill holes in the wall of a Qdoba in order to free the man.
“I think he is an idiot for doing it, but at least he got the girl”, fellow student Anthony Demaio told CBS.
