Kaine to address ironworkers’ union, with help from dad
Clinton said she wants to focus on ensuring things are made in America and helping those companies that are still manufacturing here.
Kaine also knocked Trump for not releasing his tax returns, a tradition for presidential and vice presidential candidates that goes back decades. Kaine’s father, who was at both the convention and the rally, owned a union-organized ironworking and welding shop in Kansas City, Mo.
“Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine are running for a third Obama term that will guarantee continued stagnant wages, higher taxes and unnecessary regulation”, said Charles Munoz, Nevada state director of Trump’s campaign.
Kaine has said the skills he learned at his dad’s shop were useful when he took off a year from Harvard Law School to work as a missionary running a vocational school in Honduras.
“You’re the underdog till they call you the victor; Democrats know this”, the Virginia senator said. “We’ve got to know who Donald Trump is beholden to”.
The presidential campaign of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is reportedly stepping up fundraising efforts.
Trump has also said that Clinton would implement the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal if she’s elected.
Earlier Monday, Kaine made a similar argument during an address to a national conference of ironworkers at the Mirage hotel and casino.
Tim Kaine is expected to highlight his family connection to the trades.
Kaine, from Virginia, will likely delve more into her plan to help small businesses.
“Donald Trump sees labor unions not as a positive force in workers’ lives but as an obstacle standing in his way”, Kaine said.
Kaine also has a rally later today at the Local 525 Plumbers & Pipefitters Training Center in Las Vegas.
But to hear Mr. Kaine describe it, the foundation is merely an innocent charity, while Mr. Trump’s tax returns are the real issue.
