Watch Hillary Clinton on Jimmy Kimmel Mocking ‘Failing Health’ Claims
“I’m embarrassed about that”, she said.
During a late night TV appearance, Clinton tried to make light of what has become a serious liability. Not unusual for a USA ally to get a meeting with the secretary of state, but an indicator that someone who donates to or is a “good friend” of the Clinton Foundation could get a meeting more easily than someone who isn’t.
Clinton tried to use humor to defuse the latest controversy over her emails. “And I’m embarrassed about that”, said Clinton.
But in Akron, Ohio Donald Trump and his supporters didn’t find it that amusing.
“Take my pulse while I’m talking to you. I have to step into the alternative reality, answer questions about am I alive, how much longer will I be alive”.
Trump and his allies have repeatedly insinuated she’s unwell.
“To defeat crime and radical Islamic terrorism in our country, to win trade in our country, you need tremendous physical and mental strength and stamina”, Trump told a crowd in Wisconsin last week.
“That’s not amusing”, she said to Kimmel.
“It’s part of the wacky strategy”. Just say all these insane things and maybe you can get some people to believe you.
Trump used the same approach to go after Clinton’s family charity on Monday.
“People who have given them political donations and also people who have persistently given donations to the Clinton Foundation, who did appear from these emails to have a sort of back channel, direct line in to Hillary Clinton when she was secretary of state”.
“After the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice whitewash of the Clinton email crimes, they certainly can not be trusted to quickly or impartially investigate Hillary Clinton’s crimes”, Trump said during remarks in Akron, Ohio.
Republican Chairman Reince Preibus said if Trump continues to remain “measured”, he could be “tied or ahead” in the polls by the first week in September. Meanwhile, recently published emails have shown the same favoritism on the micro scale, i.e. Clinton Foundation executive Doug Band interceding for Foundation donors with the State Department to arrange meetings or other favors.
On Monday, Trump called for the foundation to be shut down and for a special prosecutor to be named to investigate it.
