Libertarian Gary Johnson cleared to appear on Ohio’s ballot
Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson is polling at 16 percent in his home state of New Mexico, according to results from a Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday.
Johnson’s name will appear on the ballot without a party designation because a change in state law resulted in the Libertarians losing their status as a recognized minor party.
“One candidate offends everyone. the other will say anything to get elected”, the narrator says in the spot, which hits Donald Trump for mocking a reporter with disabilities and Hillary Clinton on her email scandal. The party’s candidate, former state representative Charlie Earl, was disqualified because contractors gathering signatures to qualify him for the election failed to disclose who was paying them. His office announced Wednesday Johnson’s backers met the signature requirements. Mr. Husted has already said the party would be permitted to replace Mr. Earl with Mr. Johnson, although the candidate will run as an independent. Friday is the deadline for written protests to be filed with Husted.
The party asked the nation’s high court on Tuesday to hear its appeal of a decision by the Cincinnati-based USA 6th Circuit Court of Appeals upholding a state law that imposed stricter rules for minor parties to qualify for the ballot.
“To not allow a party label to come on the ballot you’re basically telling voters you don’t trust them with all the information when they get into the ballot box”, he said.
