Portugal star Ronaldo wins UEFA Best Player in Europe award
Real Madrid superstar Ronaldo pipped club colleague Gareth Bale and Atletico Madrid forward Griezmann in the voting, putting the seal on a 2015-16 season that saw him score the winning penalty in the Champions League final and help Portugal to Euro 2016 glory.
“We are really happy because two Real players were among the best in Europe”, said club president Florentino Perez.
Bale’s recent performances for Wales in the recently concluded Euro 2016 was commendable as he was easily Wales best player by miles scoring two of the best free kicks in the tournament before losing out to Ronaldo’s Portugal in the semi-finals.
“We were able to win the Champions League, on a personal level I was the top scorer in the Champions League en route to us winning it, so it was possibly one of the best years of my career”.

The fantastic season, which also saw him finish as the Champions League’s top scorer, is among the best of Ronaldo’s impressive career, according to the man himself.
Gareth Bale admits the fact this season’s Champions League final is being staged in his hometown gives him extra incentive to make sure Real Madrid retain the trophy. “Maybe I deserve to win the award”.
