Doctors Without Borders refused to help US ISIS hostage
All it takes is 10 seconds to see Kayla Mueller’s distress.
It is the only known video footage of Mueller from her hellacious captivity.
Kayla Mueller was forced to marry ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was reportedly tortured and constantly raped before her death previous year.
“I’ve been here too long, and I’ve been very sick”.
The exact orientation of “here” is unknown but what is known is that she is being held captive by ISIS terrorists.
When 26-year-old Kayla Mueller, a humanitarian aid worker from Prescott, Arizona, was kidnapped by ISIS in 2013, it set off a desperate effort by her parents to gain her freedom, dealing not only with one of the most brutal terror groups the world has ever known, but also with humanitarian groups and USA officials who they say failed their daughter. Their special report is airing on “20/20” Friday at 10 p.m. Its release comes almost three years since the Mueller family received the video to their Prescott, Arizona home, on August 30, 2013.
“You just go into nearly a catatonic state, I think”.
Mueller doesn’t look like herself in the clip-she appeared to have lost weight. Her mother, Marsha, added, “It broke my heart, but I also saw her strength”.
“My name is Kayla Mueller”, she began in a clear voice, her eyebrows arched upwards, in apparent stress, above her glassy eyes. Three weeks later, the video of her plea for help was sent to her parents as a “proof-of-life”. “This is an opening offer”.
Further, a Danish freelance photographer who was held in the same complex as Mueller, tells ABC News of her bravery in the face of terror.
Sayyaf and his wife at times handcuffed the captives, kept them in locked rooms, dictated orders about their activities and movements, and showed them violent Islamic State propaganda videos. I would imagine they shot that anywhere from no less than five times, maybe as many as 15 times.
He continued, “They got the lighting right”. They controlled what’s in the background.
Ross said, “And they did not”. “If we start engaging in negotiating for the release of non-staff members, we increase the risk to our teams that are already taking grave risks to provide medical care in the [sic] some of these places that Kayla wanted to provide help to”, the Doctors Without Borders executive explained. “And that’s what this is meant to do”.
Support to Life was helpful to the Muellers, but it is a small organization with limited resources or knowledge of how to handle a hostage case, they say.
Her only other proof of life came in a May 2014 audio clip.
“Mom and Dad, I still am remaining healthy”.
The “proof of life” video from 2013.. Those detaining me are demanding an exchange of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release for my release. “If this is not achievable, they are demanding 5 million euros to ensure my release”, she said, before she abruptly said “goodbye”.
