Rangers reliever Jeremy Jeffress charged with DWI in Dallas
Rangers reliever Jeremy Jeffress was arrested in Dallas overnight for DWI, reports Rebecca Lopez of WFAA 8 News in Dallas.
Texas Rangers right-handed relief pitcher Jeremy Jeffress was arrested on a drunk-driving charge early Friday morning. His bail was set at $500.
Jeffress wasn’t with the team for its home game Friday night against Cleveland. Jail records only show that Jeffress was arrested and booked after 5 a.m. local time. An officer reported Jeffress’ breath smelled like alcohol and his eyes were “bloodshot, watery and glassy”, the warrant says.
In a written statement, the Rangers said they were “aware of the situation”.
Based on information from Dallas police, Jeffress apparently was stopped shortly before 2:30 a.m.in Uptown, in the 2400 block of Mahon Street near Maple Avenue and Cedar Springs Road.
Acquired from the Brewers on August 1, Jeffress has allowed four earned runs in nine innings with the Rangers.
Jeffress, who was the 16th overall selection in the 2006 draft, has a 2.52 ERA and 27 saves in 56 games.
As a minor leaguer in 2008, he was suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for marijuana.
“Since joining Texas this year, he”s pitched nine innings, giving up four runs.
