Buhari arrives Nairobi for Tokyo International Conference
President Buhari on Friday departed Nigeria for Kenya to attend an global conference focused on the development of Africa.
“The TICAD Summit this time will be historic because it will be held for the first time, here in African”.
The summit will focus on the theme: “Advancing Africa’s Sustainable Development Agenda – TICAD Partnership for Prosperity”.
The summit will also serve as an worldwide platform to raise global awareness and ensure continued support for Africa’s development efforts, underpinned by the twin principles of worldwide partnership and African ownership.
He said Abe is being accompanied by a large delegation of Japanese business people, acknowledging that Japan is Kenya’s leading development partner in Sub-Saharan Africa.
In tow is Japan’s foreign minister Fumio Kishida who is joining the first sitting prime minister to visit Kenya in around 15 years.
Kenyatta called on the Japanese government to ensure that young Africans benefit the most from the meeting, adding that TICAD VI will not only strengthen ties between Africa and Japan but also between African nations themselves.
Mr Kitaoka says Africa is important to Japan because of trade and the continent’s stability is of paramount significance for smooth trading. “But we know equally well that the energy can sometimes be misdirected”, he said. It has infact supported the Chirundu and Kazungula one stop border posts shared with Zimbabwe and Botswana respectively.
“Japan will contribute to the growth and development of Africa through joint efforts between the governments and the private sector”.
“In addition, Tokyo will make low-interest loans from the Japan International Cooperation Agency and other financing available for African geothermal projects that have reached the construction stage”, the Nikkei Asian Review reported.
