White named Auburn’s starting QB for opener
Coach Gus Malzahn announced Sean White as the team’s week one starter Thursday night over Jeremy Johnson and John Franklin III. He’s in a good spot.
So yeah, perhaps 2015 was underwhelming for White, but at this point it doesn’t really matter. Last year’s knee and foot injuries show he’s not built for the punishment that comes with playing quarterback more like a running back in the SEC. Many thought Franklin would win the job because of his mobility, but in the end, the coaching staff went with White.
“I don’t think it plays into it at all”, Leard said.
“I think that situation would be better than being benched like he was this season because when you’re benched, than the decision is made right then that you’re not the guy the coaches have confidence in”, Gresham said last November.
Multiple Auburn receivers said during preseason practices that White had gone to the returning players as a more vocal leader asking them how and where they want the ball on certain routes.
The Auburn Tigers named Sean White the team’s starting quarterback for the season opener against the Clemson Tigers.
Therefore, Sean White will be Auburn’s starting quarterback – at least to start the season – and that’s not a bad thing. Although White is the starter for now, it’s unlikely that any Auburn signal caller will have a particularly long leash this season if previous year is any indication. “It was a very good race”, Malzahn said.
The Boca Raton, Florida native completed 83 of 143 passes for 1,166 yards with one score and four interceptions. He’s in a good spot to lead this team.
“He’s not going to back down from anybody”. “I still don’t believe I played as well as I could have, not even close”.
White said there aren’t any “hard feelings” between the three quarterbacks. “They really get that attitude that you can really feed off of as a team”. Now, he said, he looks as himself this way: “You’re the older guy”.
“Your job is to ask questions and do what you do”. Auburn is always talented but it is going to take some big coaching and at least steady QB play for this team to have a big season. “But I think Sean has a little mean streak to him”.
