Instant Replay: Raiders busted up by run in loss to Titans
It serves as a dress rehearsal for the start of the regular season.
After two preseason games on the road, the Oakland Raiders will return to the Coliseum for their first preseason game of 2016 in front of the Black Hole.
To close out the third quarter the Raiders’ second team offense was driving in first down on the Titans’ 26-yard-line. They gave up a long drive for a field goal in the preseason opener in Arizona, an opening touchdown drive to the Packers in week two in Green Bay, and today gave up another opening drive touchdown to the Titans.
Mariota had the Raiders scrambling all night, faking out DJ Hayden on an option run and beating Oakland’s top cornerback Sean Smith on a couple of plays. He had three tackles and huge hit on Mariota after the Titans’ quarterback released a pass, but was also replaced by Cory James for large chunks of the first half.
Carr capped the opening drive with a 6-yard TD pass to rookie DeAndre Washington and almost had a third TD, but he missed an open Clive Walford in the end zone in the closing minute of the first half. He finished 9 for 16 for 170 yards and ran for 20 more.
Carr was 12-for-18 for 169 yards and two touchdowns, a line that included a pair of well-placed deep shots to Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree. Carr went to him two plays later for a 15-yard completion.
He continued his progression once again in 2014 and cemented his position as one of the better tight ends in the league with a 63 catch, 890 yard season.
Raiders: Rookies Washington and Jalen Richard provided sparks as they make a case to become the primary backup running back to Latavius Murray. The drive ended with McGloin dumping it off to DeAndre Washington with Sean Spence bearing down on him.
DeAndre Washington: The Raiders’ fifth-round pick, Washington had eight carries for 55 yards that included a huge burst on a 31-yard run. David Bass returned it 47 yards for a score. The second-year pro was held out with an undisclosed injury, joining Mario Edwards Jr., Gabe Holmes and Reggie Nelson on the shelf.
