Police department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted that Derren Sorrells is a “documented member of the Gangster Disciples and now on parole”.
Police say the suspects have criminal records and authorities are investigating whether the encounter between the men was a robbery, possibly involving a driver from a ridesharing company.
