Sachin presents BMW cars to Sindhu, Sakshi, Dipa for Rio feat
India’s Rio Olympics medallists P.V. Sindhu and Sakshi Malik, gymnast Dipa Karmakar who missed a medal by a whisker and badminton coach Pullela Gopichand on Sunday received BMW cars for their achievements.
He also hailed the relentless coaching skills of Pullela Gopichand, which had resulted in bringing out fantastic talents in badminton like Sania Nehwal and P V Sindhu among others.
Sindhu scripted history by winning the silver in women’s singles badminton while Sakshi took the bronze in women’s freestyle wrestling 58 kg category. Dipa finished fourth in artistic gymnastics. The minister also said that in order to motivate and produce more athletes, the Sports Ministry is coming up with several programmes across the country. A delighted Sindhu told Mirror, “Sachin Sir gifted me my first auto, a Swift Dzire”.
“We are all with you to see many more wonderful moments in your career”. We will keep taking initiatives that will take sports forward.
Upon receiving the keys of her BMW auto, Sindhu was delighted the legendary Indian batsman had kept a promise he once made to her. “At that function also Sachin sir told me that I would definitely get another vehicle if I get an Olympic medal that happened today”. It was my dream and it has come true. He congratulated me and said you did really well and made the country proud.
Many were even more amused when on Sunday, he posted a picture of him with actor Suniel Shetty and claimed that he discussed “constructive steps for the encouragement & development of Sports in India” with him.
With Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauding PV Sindhu and Sakshi Malik for bringing laurels to India at the Rio Olympics, Union Sports Minister Vijay Goel said that more of India’s “daughters” need to represent the nation at the upcoming Olympic Games and other global events.
Modi said Dipa won hearts of the nation by her performance in the major sporting event of the year.
