Browns trade punter Andy Lee and 2017 7th-round pick to Panthers
The Carolina Panthers made a move to improve their punting situation today by acquiring Andy Lee in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
“[I took issue with] his pursuit”, Jackson said after the game. Let’s be very honest, ” Jackson said after the game. And the second time [he had a chance to pursue a returner] he did that [in the third quarter], so that was improvement.
“That’s something to build on. So on we go”.
He was originally signed as an undrafted rookie free agent by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014, but was waived in the final roster cutdown after punting 16 times for a 46.4-yard gross average and 40.4-yard net average. But, if a guy like Andy Lee – who averaged 46.7 yards per punt previous year – is pinning you inside the 10 or whatever and they just walk down the field against your sorry defense, then what good did that great punt do?
He signed a six-year deal worth $20.4 million in 2012 with the 49ers, who traded him to the Browns last season. He followed that performance with a 43.2 net punting average in 2012, the sixth-best single-season average in National Football League history.
The former Pittsburgh Panther was selected by the San Francisco 49ers with 188th overall pick in the sixth round of the 2004 NFL Draft.
Lee’s current contract runs through 2018.
Lee, a Pro Bowl selection in 2007, 2009 and 2011, has a 2016 salary cap figure of $2,833,000 with his current deal running through 2018.
Additionally, the Browns hold Philadelphia’s second-round pick and Carolina’s fourth-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft. Nortman sometimes outkicked the coverage. An injury settlement is a possibility with four more moves needed to reduce the roster to 75 by 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
