Clown spotted trying to lure kids into woods
Reports of clowns trying to lure children into the woods at a Greenville County apartment complex are going viral.
Parents have been urged not to allow their children to walk around unaccompanied around Fleetwood Manor Apartments in Greenville, South Carolina.
Sheriff’s deputies investigated after a report that someone dressed as a circus clown was enticing children to follow them into some woods near an apartment complex in SC. First and foremost at Fleetwood Manor Apartments childrens [sic] safety is a top priority. At no time should a child be alone at night, or walking in the roads or wooded areas at night. An investigating deputy then spoke with another person who said a clown was also seen near a garbage dumpster.
USA TODAY has reached out to the Greenville County sheriff’s department.
The letter reminds residents that children should never be alone at night and there is a 10 p.m. curfew at the property.
In an August 21 report to Greenville County deputies, a woman said her son had seen “clowns in the woods” around 8:30 p.m.
It may sound like something from Stephen King’s infamous IT, but police in Greensville, South Carolina, are taking the matter deadly seriously and are warning parents to keep their kids out of the woods near Fleetwood Manor Apartments, ABC 13 reports. Anymore information that comes regarding this issue will be sent out to all residents.
Bruce Wilson, a community activist, said he is getting involved to make sure the children are safe.
Several children said the clowns have appeared in woods behind one apartment building and that they “try to persuade them into the woods further by displaying large amounts of money”. One call was regarding the clown sightings and the other call was in reference to gunshots being heard in the area.
“They finally sent people out here to check, they found some evidence”.
The womansaid her son also “mentioned and observed several clowns in the woods flashing green laser lights”, before the “clowns” ran off into the woods. Deputies will provide extra patrols in the area, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
