Some of his other previous statements on immigration included: naming “radical Islamic terrorism” the enemy, introducing ideological screening tests, suspending immigration from certain countries, and reopening Guantanamo Bay.
“There certainly can be a ‘softening, ‘ because we’re not looking to hurt people”, Trump told Fox News town hall last Tuesday. Trump called Clinton “a bigot;” Clinton accused Trump of allowing hate groups to take over the Republican Party.

Christie, who also sought the GOP nomination for president, added to the confusion Sunday by suggesting that while criminal members of the undocumented population would be deported, others would have to self-deport if they wanted a path toward staying in the US legally. But who Trump considers a criminal remained unclear Sunday.
The speech has been rescheduled at least once. Trump’s campaign had scheduled it for last Thursday, then canceled it. The campaign also blamed staff error for reports that it had been scheduled for August 31 in Phoenix.
“Well, I think the whole question of anchor babies, as it’s known, the whole question of citizenship, of natural-born Americans is a subject for the future”, he said.
Trump rose to the top of the GOP field by stoking the nativist anger of his conservative followers with vows to deport all the undocumented workers in this country, and build a wall between the United States and Mexico, before allowing some of “the good ones” to return to the US.
“I’ve laid out the best I could, the specific plans and ideas that I want to pursue as your president because I have this old-fashioned idea”, Clinton said during a recent speech in Colorado.
