Zach Braff to star in pilot about a podcast startup
The single-camera style can be a tad disorienting to a viewer of traditional sitcoms, but Braff himself is evidence that such a show can work, as he previously starred in Scrubs. When that finished, he went into independent films, including Wish I Was Here, which he made with a $3 million Kickstarter campaign. At the moment it’s just been commissioned for a pilot by ABC, but there were many United States networks competing for the show, according to Deadline.
Deadline reports that Zach Braff is set to direct and star in a new comedy pilot for ABC called Start Up.
Scrubs managed to capture the hearts and amusing bones of millions of people, and I’m happy to see ABC, Tarses, and Braff reuniting for this new series.
Production has not yet started on Start Up, but it looks like ABC may want it for its 2017 fall season. Since then, he directed and starred in the 2014 film Wish I Was Here and has done extensive theater work in NY. It follows a man in his mid-30s with a wife and two kids who quits his job and decides to start his own business. Tarses will be writing the pilot, and he will also be a producer on the show.
Davis Entertainment has comedy Dr. Ken at ABC, one of four broadcast series the company has on the air next season along with dramas Timeless, The Blacklist and spinoff The Blacklist: Redemption on NBC.
