GMC Canyon gets new V6, eight-speed transmission for 2017
Engineers have improved its variable valve timing and direct injection systems, while adding cylinder deactivation to further elevate efficiency. Also debuting is a new eight-speed auto transmission that not only helps with initial launch while hauling but also reduces engine speeds and highway speeds for increased fuel economy.
The 2017 GMC Canyon is scheduled to become available at U.S. dealerships later in 2016. Pricing for 2017 models has not been announced.
General Motors Co.is adding a new 3.6-liter V-6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission to its 2017 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon midsize pickups, replacing an older V-6 engine that came with a six-speed transmission. Denali vehicles account for about a quarter of all GMC sales. Canyon sales have totaled 20,894, up more than 18 percent from the same seven months in 2015.
As has always been anticipated, General Motors’ truck brand will now give the Canyon the high-line Denali treatment.
GMC’s successful re-entry into the midsize pickup market has been expanded for 2017. “With a broader 2017 Canyon lineup and the redesigned Acadia, GMC is offering more choices for finding the premium truck or SUV that matches customers’ design preferences and capability needs”.
The new 2017 Canyon All Terrain X trim level, which GMC says is the most off-road capable version of the Canyon, includes such dirt-ready features as beefed-up suspension, transfer case shield, 17-inch aluminum wheels, all-terrain tires and all-weather floor liners, as well as body-color grille surround and rear step bumper, unique interior trim, heated front seats, remote start and automatic climate control.
Another package, known as All Terrain X, builds upon the All Terrain variant offered on the SLE model. As if that wasn’t enough, the Denali model provides advanced safety features like lane departure warning and forward collision alert.
The Canyon All Terrain X aims to compete head on with the Toyota Tacoma. It routinely ranks tops with those looking for a serious off-road package. There’s also a new Hill Descent Control system and the truck adds a spray-in bedliner.
