What do you think of Colin Kaepernick’s protest?
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick (7) passes against the Oakland Raiders during the second quarter of an NFL football game in Oakland, Calif., Sunday, Dec. 7, 2014. The firestorm that he stirred up for that is way out of proportion to his action since there are 1700 players on the 32 team roster in the National Football League and even with Kaepernick sitting during the anthem that still leaves 1699 or so players who will stand at rigid attention during the playing of the anthem. What’s really going on in this country. “I stand proudly for the national anthem every single week”. Some 49ers fans began posting videos of themselves burning their Kaepernick jerseys on social media, while others ridiculed the sportsman for criticising a country that has allowed him to earn millions.
The sheer number of professional, college and amateur sports contests in the United States preceded by The Star-Spangled Banner renders recurring collisions between adhering to protocol and delivering a political statement to be inevitable. I don’t even know where I got it.
“I’m going to continue to sit”.
“I commend him for standing up”.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said he was confident President Barack Obama is aware of Kaepernick’s actions, but hadn’t spoken directly with the president about it.
“We hope your organizations choose to do the right thing and at least apologize to the many police officers Mr. Kaepernick has disrespected for no apparent reason”, the letter reads. “Even as objectionable as we find his perspective, he certainly is entitled to express them”. He plays in the pro sport that is the most rigid, quasi-military discipline, my way or the highway, pro sport run by some of the most conservative rich white guys on the planet; most with solid and deep GOP ties. I just had to bounce back from a gunshot wound to the chest and thigh. “I’m very happy that it is”.
Kaepernick said that oppression against minorities in America has prompted him to take a seat during the National Anthem.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a stand against perceived racism – by sitting down when the national anthem played during a preseason game.
Kaepernick had also sat down during the team’s first two preseason contests, though nobody seemed to notice/care.
“We do not cover the anthem live in the second game, however that doesn’t mean we can’t record it and report it”, Rothman said. “It’s shameful”, Boone said.
