Urban Meyer on Tim Tebow’s baseball tryout: ‘Don’t count him out’
The Mets will have a scout at former National Football League quarterback Tim Tebow’s baseball workout on Tuesday, according to MLB reporter Jon Heyman.
But the 29-year-old former University of Florida Heisman Trophy victor is trying to branch out and today he’s trying out for Major League Baseball.
Tebow then switched into baseball trousers, a navy blue top and black cleats for outfield work, but scouts were not overly impressed by his throws from right field to second base, third base and home.
Although there is no way to indicate whether anything will come of Tim Tebow’s major league baseball attempt, he is certainly off to a fast start. As is also pointed out, Tebow is an elite athlete, and one that never truly had the chance to fully dedicate himself to the game of baseball.
If Tebow does want to go through with this baseball thing, he already has one offer from a professional club: Venezuela’s Aguilas del Zulia.
“Our experienced scout on the ground tells me Tebow just hit one about 440′ to RF”, former big-league reliever C.J.
Bayless says Tebow ran the 60 yard dash in 6.6 seconds. the same as Major League Baseball stars Derek Jeter and Bryce Harper.
Tebow was an all-state baseball player in high school. “For not having played as long as he had, I thought he did OK”.
“I thought he was OK”.
Morosi reported early on that Tebow was faring OK.
Tebow last played baseball on a regular basis in 2004 as a junior at Nease High in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
He was almost drafted by the Los Angeles Angels out of high school, according to the NFL, but Tebow opted for football because “he just had a bigger fire” for the sport, according to Nease coach Greg “Boo” Mullins.
