How many games will the Cowboys win without Tony Romo?
The oft-criticized Cowboys’ quarterback was brilliant, taking Dallas and its mediocre defense to a 12-win season. “I’m reaching out to Romo, so it is what it is”. He has five touchdown passes and no interceptions.
And despite what he’s been up to of late, Manziel has made it known that he would love an opportunity to play in Dallas. That hope is fading fast. The Cowboys were 1-11 without him past year, and since he took over as the starter in 2006, they’re 78-49 with him and 10-23 without him.
And the veteran tight end thinks there’s no doubt the 36-year-old quarterback will return to form this year, after the compression fractures in his back that will keep him out for some portion of the start of the season. Kellen Moore, who replaced Romo down the stretch last season, is on the roster but likely done for the season with a broken ankle.
“It felt good to put that jersey on again and go out there with my teammates, from the warmup, the pregame, and then during the game to be in the position to make a play and be out there running routes against an opponent, it felt good”, Cruz said via NBCNewYork.com. Taking that hit on September 11 wouldn’t have been easier. As he has done countless times, Tony fought back to walk off the field on his own power, before being forced to sit out for the remainder of the action by his Head Coach Jason Garrett. With that said, it’s time for the team to move away from Romo. It’s not Obama’s fault or even Trump’s fault. Bosa actually signed with a week to get ready and he can be pointed in the direction of the opposing passer and given a role immediately.
Could the Dallas Cowboys trade for someone such as the New York Jets’ Geno Smith? That was tough to tell a year ago, when as my partner in crime Jonathan Hull always points out, the staff really gave Brandon Weeden no chance to succeed.
That complicates the Cowboys’ current challenge – whether to place Romo on injured reserve with a designation to return. It’s why rookie signal callers struggle so much. What if he says six weeks and it takes 10?
In Prescott’s case it’s the offensive line.
However, when was the last time you heard someone mention areas of improvement for them? Even with Romo the formula figured to be long offensive drives leading to 32 or 33 minutes of offense each week.
It also helps that Prescott adds a high level of intelligence, fast learning, high character, and strong leadership qualities.
Kirk Cousins had a breakout year to lead the Redskins to a division title in 2015. I’m sure Tony’s aware of that. That duo was able to gash Seattle’s defense with a nice mixture of run designs, including one read option that yielded a nice chunk of yards for Prescott.
For Prescott to make that happen sooner rather than later, he’ll need the Cowboys to win and he’ll need to serve as one of the primary stars behind those wins.
The offense could survive without him if Prescott is the real deal, Dez Bryant stays healthy and No. 4 pick Ezekiel Elliott lives up to the hype.
It just feels like the ceiling might be the 8-8 this fan base grew to hate.
