Aidan Turner hurt in freak sea accident while filming new Poldark series
Aidan Turner has revealed that filming the second series of Poldark wasn’t all plain-sailing.
Leo Devine, Head of BBC South West, said: “It’s fantastic news that the new series of Poldark will be screened in Cornwall before it makes its national debut on BBC One”.
Turner said that he was hurt and dropped Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays Demelza, into the sea off the Cornish coast during filming, after a freak wave slammed the boat into his head.
Aidan Turner dunked Eleanor Tomlinson in the sea after a boat slammed into his head while he was filming “Poldark”.
After listeners emailed in to express concern that his character Ross Poldark would be killed off, Eleanor joked: “He does die and they rename the show Demelza”.
He said: “There’s nothing like the Cornish sea at the height of winter for putting you in your place”.
Poldark Season 2 star narrated that he was the man injured but nobody came to see if he was okay.
But Turner said he was not the only member of the cast and crew who was hurt in the incident. “I was the man injured.” he added. But will it stay afloat when it goes head to head on Sunday night with ITV’s rival period drama series, Victoria, starring Jenna Coleman?
Furthermore, Turner said that the waves and Mother Nature does not care how well the previous series rated.
The first season, a reinvention of the 1975 programme, was an unexpected hit for the BBC and ended with Poldark arrested for murder and his wife Demelza left alone.
“But it just slowly does get worse”.
“It’s a bit odd, but you get used to it”, he added, seemingly unaware of the effect his words had just had.
Irish actor Aidan Turner has dismissed speculation that he will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond, insisting it is all “just rumours”. “But Ross is more comfortable when he doesn’t share with anybody, he just takes the burden and the responsibility all himself”.
