News photographer saves pregnant woman from burning vehicle
WBRZ photographer Patrick Perry and News 2 reporter Brittany Weiss were following behind the woman on their way to an unrelated news story when they saw the burning wreck. He then opened the passenger door and managed to carry the woman – who couldn’t escape by herself – across the road to safety. WBRZ photographer Patrick Perry and reporter Brittany Weiss were on their way to cover a story when they saw the 21-year-old woman lose control of her vehicle on a highway in Livingston Parish.
‘I started hearing a voice – a very soft voice – saying “I’m over here, I’m over here”,’ Perry recalled to WBRZ.
Other Good Samaritans stopped near the wreck on La.
Perry said he has spent his career attending the scenes of accidents and knew what to do to help.
Perry stopped his news vehicle, carried the woman out of the sports auto – which caught fire – and gently set her down on the pavement.
“Nothing out here, so somebody has to save her”, Perry said later in an on-camera interview.
The 21-year-old woman seemed confused and weak, but didn’t appear to be severely injured. Paramedics arrived and took the woman to the hospital, where her condition stabilized. “How many people do you know that would go into a burning auto and pull you out?” Her baby is also doing OK.
“I came in early to cover this story, otherwise we would’ve never been there”.
