Trump retreats from vow to deport all living in US illegally
His news conference with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto in Mexico City seemed to go relatively well Wednesday, as the two men were cordial toward each other, and Trump controlled his temper and made no major gaffes.
PHOENIX (AP) – Donald Trump is retreating from his vow to deport everyone living in the United States illegally, even as he sticks with an aggressive tone on illegal immigration and remains committed to building a physical wall along the USA border with Mexico.
Pared down, Trump’s policy message might be this: He would prioritize the removal of undocumented criminals who have committed crimes.
End “catch and release” and use extreme vetting on people coming to America.
He says there will be zero amnesty and every illegal immigrant will have to leave the country and re-apply to enter the United States legally.

Trump’s visit to Mexico was dismissed by former secretary of state and the democratic nominee, Hillary Clinton, who pointed out the inconsistency between Trump’s claim and that of President Nieto.
Throughout the Phoenix speech, Trump read from a teleprompter but supercharged the script with his own asides and add-ons, many of which riled the already raucous crowd to transports of delight.
The Washington Post described Trump’s speech on immigration a tough one. Trump and some Trump surrogates have used different words, such as “humane” and “compassionate”, in regards to immigration in recent weeks.
Listening to the speech, marveling at the about-face maneuver, one could nearly hear the spirited debate within the councils of Trump’s campaign. “I’m about Americanism”, said Rhonda Davis.
In Thursday’s statement, Johnson also pointed to what many analysts say is the core problem with the United States’ immigration system – a quota system that makes it hard for people to come here legally.
He said that police and other law enforcement officers know who these people are and are prevented from arresting them. Hillary Clinton leads Trump in the polls among women, the college educated, Latinos and African Americans.
Kaine said Wednesday on NBC’s “Today” that even if Trump’s account is accurate, it showed he “folded under pressure” and “didn’t have the backbone” to discuss the issue with the Mexican president. And Mexico will pay for the wall.
‘Mr. Trump was not lying. because there was no discussion, ‘ Sánchez said.
Hours later, Pena Nieto said in a tweet that he had told Trump clearly in their private meeting that Mexico would not pay. Reporter: Here in Mexico City trump was measured and downright diplomatic.
