Samir Nasri ready to put troubles behind him at Sevilla
Samir Nasri has joined Sevilla from Manchester City on a season-long loan.
Guardiola handed Nasri his first appearance of the season as a late substitute during City’s 3-1 Premier League win over West Ham last Sunday and said: “If he wants to help us and stay to be part of something, it depends on him”.
Nasri’s City team-mate and compatriot Eliaquim Mangala, a £42million signing from Porto two years ago, has also moved out after joining Valencia on a season-long loan.
“Guardiola tried to make me stay but I told him that I wanted to leave and play regular first-team football”, Nasri told reporters.
“I needed a familiar club that would give me affection and Sevilla can do that”.
The Frenchman’s future had seemed uncertain following Guardiola’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium in the summer, particularly after the Spanish boss revealed the 29-year-old reported for pre-season training overweight.
However, the former Arsenal midfielder reassured Sevilla fans that he’s fit enough for action.
“I’m fine, because I played last weekend with Manchester City”, he said.
“My time injured allowed me to rest and reflect. I learned a lot past year”, he continued, adding his “obsession” was now to be “good on the pitch” and be “irreproachable” in his behaviour. “Sevilla are a team with a lot of quality and a great a coach who likes to keep the ball and press, a game I think will suit me”.
He added: “Sampaoli said to me that I will play as right and left winger, playmaker and even as a striker”.
