Google Reportedly Ditching Nexus Brand Starting With Marlin, Sailfish Handsets
Interestingly, Google had begun releasing the Android 7.0 Nougat to prevailing Nexus devices just lately, ahead of the Nexus devices.
While the dates of the Nexus 2016 launch and release are still being sought, details about the devices’ looks and features have been all over. Earlier reports hinted at pricing in the range $500 and $300 for Marlin and Sailfish.
Similar to last year’s Nexus 5X and 6P – built under Google’s supervision by LG and Huawei, respectively – this year’s Nexus sequel is planned to come in a pair.
It’s also possible that Android Central’s sources are wrong… or that Google’s plans could change by the time the company is ready to launch its new phones this fall. However, it is unclear whether Google will also do away with the HTC brand name on the smartphones.
Does this mean that Google is killing the Nexus brand? However, it may take some time before the newly-launched mobile OS finally lands to Samsung devices.
If you want to upgrade your Nexus handset to Android Nougat you may be in luck.
Apart from Samsung devices on T-Mobile soon to get Android Nougat, the United States carrier also announced that some of the HTC smartphones such as HTC One M9 and HTC 10 will also being prepared for the Android Nougat update.
Could this be it? Whereas with Nexus phones the company was sort of a partner to the likes LG, Samsung and Sony, with the Google phones it will be a direct competitor. That includes a dual rear camera setup and two display panels on the front, including a 5.5-inch QHD main display and a much smaller, secondary ticker screen at the top. In addition, the smaller Sailfish will drop the 16GB variant in favor of a 32GB base model. Also available are the files for Pixel C (Image/OTA), the Nexus 9 wi-fi model (Image/OTA), and the Nexus Player (Image/OTA).
The report claims the 32 GB HTC Nexus Sailfish will cost $449, which is an increase in price compared with the current 32 GB Nexus 5X, which now sells for $399 on the Google Store.
