‘Step Up All In’s’ Trish Sie to direct ‘Pitch Perfect 3’
Although Banks will not serve as the Pitch Perfect 3 director, she’ll remain aboard the project as producer and, presumably, star.
Universal Pictures and Gold Circle Entertainment have found their new lead singer, as Step Up All In’s Trish Sie has signed on to direct Pitch Perfect 3, set to hit theaters December 22, 2017.
Banks tweeted her support for the new director on Thursday afternoon.
Banks, who stays on board as producer, announced Sie’s involvement on Twitter. Earlier this year Banks backed away from the role. The third film in the franchise will be directed by Trish Sie. What she does possess, however, is a knack for choreography, having assisted in the creation of Ok Go’s brilliant music video for “Upside Down & Inside Out”, which was shot in zero gravity.
Sadly for fans of the franchise, Pitch Perfect 3 has taken longer to develop than was previously anticipated.
The need to find a new director comes after the “Hunger Games” actress dropped out due to parental duties surrounding her two sons Felix, five, and three-year-old Mangus.
Pitch Perfect, released in 2012, made $115m (£86.6m) at the global box office, while its sequel took $287m (£216m) worldwide.
Anna Kendrick, Britanny Snow and Rebel Wilson have already been confirmed to headline the returning cast of Pitch Perfect 3.
